200 To be clear, I liked these books despite their flaws while reading them. They're too wish-fulfill-y, the main character is a good-at-everything Mary Sue, and the fourth epilogue book is pretty much not worth reading, tripping over itself to fast forward into an ill-conceived and uninteresting future. But Duncan is really, really good at building an interesting culture to plop his story down in, and I kept turning pages wanting to learn more about how it all worked.But I didn't feel good about myself after having finished, because Duncan is clearly some sort of horrible MRA mouth breather. Women in this series exist exclusively as the objects of lust for male characters, and he isn't shy about excusing his characters' rapier thoughts without any real soul searching or condemnation. By my recollection across the four novels there is only one elderly woman that isn't explicitly there to be lusted over, and Duncan still takes the time to discuss her appearance in the context of what kind of sex life she enjoyed as a young woman.
